my question is, is there restrictions on an open face helmet? whether it be in road racing or drag racing. mine expired so I'll need to update

well if your face hits the steering wheel, I think I'd want a closed face helmet. I have a motorcycle snell rated 2005, the 2010? ratings are out now and good for 12 years, so definitely buy one of those IMO. You running a snell 2000 and that's why it's expired?

yeah mine is a sa2000. I thought about the downside to the open face as far as facial protection. I just get annoyed with the heat that builds up inside of the helmet a from a closed face helmet. I know they have vented ones but I don't know how effective they are.

Mine is vented but inside a car, you're not getting much airflow, then again I don't put mine on until the lane I'm in at the track is moving forward so it's not on for long. Honestly I hit up that bike dealer on pulaski north a few blocks of 159th on the right and tried on like 10 different XXL helmets until I found one that fit my face right. Price was $16 more than online, but I found "thee one" that fit perfect. Any M2010 snell helmet would be fine to purchase, some have different straps, visor size, etc so ordering online is usually iffy for me if I can't try it out.

Just remember, Cordova uses Snell ratings and a lot of motorcycle helmets wont pass tech. Just a "heads" up :)

no a snell rated motorcycle helmet is fine for what he's doing.

M2005 or M2010

I believe Lemon's requires a SA rated helmet though. So if its going to be used for that then it should be SA.

3.4: Driver's Helmet: Undamaged, full-face Type SA helmet, Snell SA2005 or better, mandatory. FIA 8860-2000 certification is also acceptable. No open-face or hybrid helmets allowed. Complete, closable, working visors must be intact and in place. Type M (in other words, any motorcycle helmets) and other non-SA helmets not allowed. Don't know if your helmet qualifies? Gently peel back the inner padding to find the Type stamp; if it doesn't have an "SA" sticker or stamp, you're boned.

it's going to be a sa2010 it's just whether it's an open face or closed face

When I was looking for a helmet for Cordova last fall, I wanted to find an open face. Most of them places had were motorcycle helmets and weren't certified. I think the ones I did find were expensive (for what I was looking for)

The rules for LeMons says no open face... Not sure if that's important to you or not.

Thanks Daniel! I guess it would help if I bothered to read bills quote. Sorry bill and thanks for the heads up.

Well that certainly solidified my decision
